The Rialto Bridge
Venice - The Rialto Bridge
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the three bridges spanning the canal. Originally made of wood,  in 1440 it caved in and was rebuilt again from wood with the addition of shops along it. Antonio Da Ponte, winner of the competition to project the new bridge, designed the bridge as we see it today. It was finished in 1592. The Rialto is a single span bridge whose span measures 90 feet and has a maximum height of 24 feet at the middle Is one of the best places to view the Grand Canal.
