| Venice was founded in the 5th century on the marches by the "newcomers" or "novi venti", escaping the barbarians. Treetrunks were tightly bound together and used to consolidate the muddy islands, constituting the foundation of the houses. Venice is unique in the world; also called "serenissima" , the most serene, a miraculous city inperturbably floating on its calm blue lagoon. |
