Postcards from Romania
Hurez Monastery (1697)
The main church, was the work of a Greek mason, Dionisie, and the Romanian masters who brought Hurez up to date with an elaborate Brancovenesque porch. Two tall, helmeted cupolas of almost equal size dominate the roof, the larger supported by four massive arches and Byzantine pendentives. The exterior walls are decorated with blind arcades, and a marble border separates the upper and lower level.
