Postcards from Tuscany
Siena - Piazza del Campo
Tuscany - Siena (Piazza del Campo)
The legend says that the town of Siena was founded by Remo's sons Aschio and Senio who came here to seek refuge from their uncle Romolo. The symbol of Siena is a She-wolf, similar to the one in Rome, maybe there is some truth in this story. Once a capital to rival Florence, Siena is still unspoiled and endowed with the grandor of the age when it was at its peak (1260-1348). The best place to begin an exploration of its historic center is Piazza del Campo and the surrounding maze of medieval streets.
