Arezzo - The Town Hall
Tuscany - Arezzo (The Town Hall)
Arezzo is the birthplace of Francesco Petrarca. The house he was born in 1304 has now become the seat of the Academy devoted to him. The Renaissance artist and art historian Giorgio Vasari and Guido d'Arezzo, the inventer of musical notation, were also born here. Today Arezzo is best known for the magnificent frescoes by Piero della Francesca (c. 1420-92) in the church of San Francesco. Painted between 1452 and 1466, they depict scenes from the Legend of the True Cross on three walls of the capella maggiore, or altar choir.
