| Livorno was almost completely rebuilt after the distruction caused by the aerial and naval bombing during World War II. Famous for its Naval Academy, founded in 1881 by the General of the Naval Engineers, Benedetto Brin, and for its beautiful sailing ship, Americo Vespucci, carrying around the world a message of peace and fraternity. Ferries run from Livorno to Elba, Sardinia, Palermo and to the rest of Europe, and Norh Africa. |
