| In 1561 the Piazza dei Cavalieri was renovated upon order by Cosimo I dei Medici, who assigned the task to Visari. The artist also had the beautiful Knights' Palace built, creating a harmonious group with the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri and the Palace of Count Ugolino. The leaning tower begun in 1174 by Bonanno Pisano and finished 99 years later by Giovanni de Simone. It stands 55,863 mt. high, has 8 floors and a slope of 4,500 mt. |
