| The charming town of Bagni di Lucca is well known for its thermal baths, which were famous already in the 11th century. In the early 19th century, Bagni di Lucca reached its heyday as one of Europe's most fashionable spas, frecvented by emperors, kings, aristocrates as well as the most famous artists such as Montaigne, Byron, Shelley, D' Azeglio and Carducci. Visitors came not only for termal cures, but also for the Casino (1837), one of Europe's first licensed gambling houses. |
