| Maramures, an area in the north-western part of Romania, kept the old traditions, customs, clothing and language unaltered by time. First mentioned in a document in 1199, became a district in 1326, a country in Hungarian kindom in 1368, was included in the Principality of Transylvania in 1553 and got united with Romania in 1918. |
