Postcards from Romania
Sighisoara
In the year 1367 Sighisoara is named "civitas" (town) for the first time. Under the threat of the Otoman invasion the town was fortified. Sighisoara had three curtain walls and 14 towers. The 15th and 16th century are the time of its greatest prosperity. Sighisoara grew rich on the proceeds of trade with Moldavia and Wallachia. The number of crafts (25) equal Sighisoara to the main German towns of the time.
