Sighisoara

The Protestant Reformation, which affected all of Europe, had a profound impact on the Saxons. All of them converted to the Lutheran faith. The "evangelische Kirche" became the most influential institution in the life of the town. The main Saxon church dominates the hill at the southern end of citadel. Named the Church on the Hill (Bergkirche), is reached by the impressive covered wooden Scholars' Stairs, consisting of 175 steps and 29 landings, dated from 1642.
