| Piata Mare began in the 14th century as an extension to the exising citadel and was designed for open-air ceremonies, including processions and public executions. The houses surrounding the square are mainly strong two and three storey buildings painted in pretty colours and overhung by large tilted roofs, mostly dating from sixteenth and seventeenth century. |
