| The foundation of the city of Sibiu was set in 1160 by the person of Hermann from Nurnberg and the town was refered to as villa Hermanni. One of the earliest known references to Sibiu comes in a papal bull dated 1191, in which Pope Celestin III gave the Saxons permission to organize their own ecclesiastical community. |
