Postcards from Rome
Sant' Angelo
Rome - Sant' Angelo
The massive fortress of Castel Sant' Angelo takes its name from the vision of the Archangel Michael by Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century as he led a procession across the bridge, praying for the end of the plague. Now a museum of art and military history, including a large collection of 16th century frescoes and the Courtyard of Honor.
