Piazza Venezia
The Victor Emmanuel Monument, also called "Vittoriano", was designed by Count Giuseppe Sacconi. It was began in 1885 and inaugurated in 1911 in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy. It rises at the foot of the Capitol and is late neo-classic style. Under the statue of Rome is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
