Roman Forum
Via Sacra was the route followed through the Forum by religious processions making their way up to the Capitol to give thanks at the Temple of Jupiter. The best preserved of the Forum's monuments is the Arch of Septimius Severus to celebrate the military triumphs of the emperor in Parthia and Arabia. The Temple of Vesta was ancient Rome's most sacred shrines, dedicated to the goddess of the hearth, with the flame kept alive by the Vestal Virgins.
