Basilica of St. Peter's
Most of the great architects of the Renaissance had a hand in the design of the Basilica of St. Peter's, one of the most famous churches in Christendom. The church is 186m (610ft) long. The Dome of St. Peter's is 136.5m (448ft) high, designed by Michelangelo, was not completed in his lifetime. Michelangelo's Pieta, protected by glass since an attack in 1972, was created in 1499, when the artist was only 25.
