The Pantheon
Rome - The Pantheon
The Pantheon, a temple to "all the gods", is Rome best preserved ancient building. It was built in the 1st century AD, probably to a design by Emperor Hadrian. The inscription on the architrave of the portico "M. Agrippa L. F. Cos. tertum fecit" refers to a temple erected by Agrippa in 27 BC to the tutelary divinities of the Julia family. The Pantheon contains the tombs of Raphael and the Kings of Italy.
