| The Capitol (Piazza del Campidoglio) was designed by Michelangelo (1534-1549). The artist placed on a new pedestal the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, designed the geometric paving and the facades of the buildings. The piazza is flanked by Palazzo Nuovo and Palazzo dei Conservatori, housing the Capitoline Museums, with an important collection of sculpture and paintings. |
