Perugia was in the centre of the quarrel between Octavian and Lucian Antony, brothers of Mark Antony. Besieged, the city surrender in 40 B.C., was burnt and partially destroyed. Octavian Augustus had the town rebuilt and it became part of the 7th Administrative Region. After the year 1000, Perugia began to expand progressively until the 13th century.
