| Marie Louise of Austria, duchess of Parma, had it build between 1821 and 1829 on a design by the ducal architect Nicola Bettoli. She wanted to endow Parma with a modern structure like the one of other cities such as the Scala of Milan, the Fenice of Venice and S. Carlo of Naples. |
