Postcards from Parma
Colorno - Ducal Palace
A fortress was built here in the 10th century on the ruins of a Roman settlement called Caput Lurni. Roberto Sanseverino changed it into a residence in the 15th century. Ranuccio I Farnese annexed the feud to the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza. The current appearance is the work by Bibiena from 1712-1727, who rearranged the park, added fountains, gardens and statues, to the extent that the palace of Colorno is called the small Versailles.
