| The Romans founded Parma in 183 BC on a pre-existent Celtic settlement to complete the occupation and defense schedule of Via Aemilia. Huns conquered the city in the 5th century, shortly after the Etruscans occupied the city and in 570, after the invasion of the Lombards, a Duke was elected to rule the town. This domination lasted for two centuries, until Charlemagne proclaimed himself King of the Franks and the Lombards in 774. |
