| The Eiffel Tower was constructed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle. When completed in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest building in the world. The tower is 300m tall and from the viewing Gallery on a clear day one can see for 45 miles (72km). After dark the tower looks at its best, lit from within by a system of illumination added in 1986. |
