| The Grand Canal was the setting for Louis XIV's many boating parties. Several fountains with sculptures spraying spectacular jets of water enhanced the gardens. Mansart designed "The Colonade", a circle of marble arches in 1685. Louis XIV's last addition to Versailles was the Chapelle Royale, a two story Baroque chapel richly decorated in marble and murals, built by Mansart. |
