Place de la Concorde
Paris - Place de la Concorde
The centerpiece of the Place de la Concorde is an obelisk from the temple of Ramses at Luxor, offered as a favour-currying gesture by the viceroy of Egypt in 1829. The 3,200 year old obelisk serves as a pivotal point for the alignment of the French parliament and the Assemble Nationale with the church of the Madeleine. Two fountains and eight statues personifying French cities added to the grandeur of the place.
