| Place de la Concorde, a huge square in the middle of Paris, was built in the mid 18th century by architect Jacques-Ange Gabriel. Between 1793 and 1795, some 1200 people died in the square beneath the Revolutionary guillotine, including Marie-Antoinette, Louis XVI, Danton and Robespierre. |
