| The building was inaugurated as a railway station for the 1900 World Fair and continued in service until 1939. In 1986 the building was reopened as the Musee d'Orsay to exhibit the arts of the period 1848 to 1914, attempting to bridge the gap between the Louvre and the Pompidou collections. |
