| The earliest settlement was in the I'lle de la Cite by the Parisii tribe. The Romans conquered the small village in 53 BC. The Franks succeeded the Romans and named the city Paris. Today, Paris with a population of over two million people is an important business and cultural center attracting artists, poets, musicians and students. |
