| The Clock Tower, now the symbol of London and the most famous timepiece in the world, was completed in 1858. It contains the 14-ton bell known as the Big Ben, named for the first commissioner of works, Sir Benjamin Hall. The light at the top of the tower in "On" when Parliament is sitting in session. |
