| After the 1834 fire, architects were invited to submit plans from the new Parliament building in the grandiose "Gothic and Elizabethan style". Charles Barry's were selected from among 97 entries. Assisting Berry was Augustus Welby Pugin, who designed the two towers, as well as the paneled ceilings, stained glass, clocks, fireplaces, etc. Gilbert Scott rebuilt the bomb damaged House of Commons after World War II. |
