Postcards from Dusseldorf
The ruins of the Kaiserswerth castle
In 1701-1702 Kaiserswerth was a focal point of the War of the Spanish Succession. The French army occupied the town, but were defeated by the troops of the Grand Alliance. The solders of the Sun King, Louis XIV of France, blew the castle up out of pure spitfulness before forced to retreat accross the Rhine in 1702.
