| Every year the Danube River dumps forty million tonnes of alluvium into the Danube Delta, the youngest and least stable landscape in Europe. Near the county capital, Tulcea, the rever splits into three brances, Chilia, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe, dividing the delta into large area of reeds and marsh, over 5800 sq-km, half of which are flooded in spring and autumn. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
