| The resort was named by the boyar Michael Cantacuzino, who founded a monastery here in 1695, on the site of an earlier hermitage. Founded after a pilgrimage he made to the biblical Mount Sinai and the Holy Land, the monastery is said to include a stone he brought from Mount Sinai. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
