| Bologna - Meloncello Arch by Dotti (1718) |
| The building of the famous arcade, the longest in the world, started in 1674. With its 666 arches, this arcade winds up the hill for 3.796 km., climbing up a slope of about 200 metres and link the Blessed Virgin of St. Luca Shrine to the town's gate. The monumental Meloncello Arch, planed by architect Carlo Francesco Dotti (1678-1759), joins the flat section of the arcade with the one climbing up the hill at about the three hundredth arch of the arcade. |
