Postcards from Bologna
Bologna - Meloncello Arch by Dotti (1718)
The building of the famous arcade, the longest in the world,  started in 1674. With its 666 arches, this arcade winds up the hill for 3.796 km., climbing up a slope of about 200 metres and link the Blessed Virgin of St. Luca Shrine to the town's gate. The monumental Meloncello Arch, planed by architect Carlo Francesco Dotti (1678-1759), joins the flat section of the arcade with the one climbing up the hill at about the three hundredth arch of the arcade.
