| Assisi it is a beautiful medieval town, heir to the legacy of St. Francis (1181-1226), who is buried in the Basilica di San Francesco. The basilica (1228), which dominates Assisi is one of the great Christian shrines and receives vast number of pilgrins throughout the year. The Upper and Lower Churches were decorated by the formost artists of their day, among them Giotto, whose frescoes on the Life of St. Francis are some of the most renowned in Italy. |
